Paul Roden and Valerie Lueth, collectively known as Tugboat Printshop, are a partnership that started in 2006. They specialize in fine art woodcut prints which they create with love. Each piece starts as an original drawing, carved in low relief on blocks of birch plywood, and then rolled with ink so they can be printed onto archival paper.

The team creates these, sometimes with multiple blocks, so it’s no wonder each print can cost up to hundreds of dollars to buy. When asked about their craft, they make it a point to let people know that quality is one of the most important things for them. They use top-shelf oil-based inks and the best quality papers they could find, ensuring their patrons that all their woodcut prints will last for a very long time.

Here’s an example of one of their most famous pieces, The Moon:

TAE loves what they’re all about. The pair says they always challenge each other to create bigger and better works each time. That’s the reason they often have limited edition prints, because they take great care in what they do and improve their craft to the best of their abilities. “It’s our hope that our prints provide pleasure while also inspiring new ways of thinking about our world.”

With these amazing artworks, they’re sure to do just that. Take a look at their “4 Elements” series:
