Joni Niemelä is a fine art nature photographer hailing all the way from Finland. In his Drosera photo series, the artist explores the alien-like vibe of carnivorous plants of the same name. He says he has a fascination for Droseras, also known as Sundews, and we are mighty impressed by the way he shoots them.
While a lot of people would rather take shots of a bigger range (and there’s nothing wrong with that!), Joni says his fav subjects are “world of macro and those little details that usually get unnoticed.” He has been doing macro photography for years, but the Sundews in his Drosera series are fairly recent.
“I published my first photo series ‘Drosera’ about a year ago which shows mostly bright and colorful world of these plants,” he writes. “This year I wanted to have some contrast to this and created my second series ‘Otherworldly Blues’ with dreamy, otherworldly and eerie feeling.”
“Looking through these two photo series one can see both, the beautiful and treacherous world of Sundews,” he further explains. Here are some of his best shots!
