We haven’t featured any cool typography or calligraphy in a while here on TAE, so we thought we’d feature an artist we recently discovered. Katrina Calligraphy is the brainchild of Katrina Centeno-Nguyen, a professional artist based in Pasadena, California.
The popularity of calligraphy has risen over the past few years, with people signing up for calligraphy classes left and right, and various Pinterest and YouTube tutorials scattered all over the internet. What then makes Katrina’s work special? Her stunning penmanship – it’s quite soothing to watch her in her element, really. Check it out below in a video by Insider Art:
While she can certainly do more than just weddings, it’s become her specialty as of late. From invitations to décor, you name it and she’ll put an amazing spin on how to write on it! Her stunningly flawless calligraphy has graced weddings and companies not only in her home turf of Pasadena, Los Angeles, and Beverly Hills, but also nationwide.
In an interview with Silver Charm Events, the artist discussed what drives her to do what she does. “A wedding is just one day, but there is something about creating happiness, for being part of the happiness of that day,” she explained. “And I can do that just with my own handwriting!”
Taking on the art world by storm without any formal training, Katrina is nothing short of amazing. She just doodled and wrote stuff when she was a kid, and it’s taken her so far, even saying to Insider Art that she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Already on the company’s 10th anniversary this year, Katrina Calligraphy started off with the artist wanting to earn extra money while in college. Having already worked with high-end wedding and non-wedding clients such as Chanel, Bulgari, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ferragamo, this young artist has so much to offer. Take a look at some of her work below:
