While we’re on the topic of self-taught artists, I’d like to introduce to you guys an English contemporary visual artist named Guy Denning. He’s now based in France, but he had his roots on the Bristol urban art scene.
He started painting when he was about 11, just after he got a set of old paints from one of his relatives who, ironically, got bored with them. He then tried to study painting and art while studying art history at the Open University. There he learned various painting techniques from older painters.
He moved to France in 2007 and has been in several solo exhibitions since the 90s.
His works are so moving, thought provoking, and most of all, inspiring. Since 2010, he has been (without fail) posting a daily sketch on his blog, called Drawing a Day. Commitment and passion! He represents what I believe art is all about – to inspire others through various means of art!
Here are some of his paintings:
His sketches, while simple, are still so gorgeous:
He also does walls!
