Sometimes our eyes can deceive us, as is the case when you first look at drawings by Monica Lee. This Malaysian artist is so wickedly talented at hyperrealism, that her drawings can make you second guess reality. Her technique with mostly graphite drawings really captures every tiny detail imaginable.
“I like to challenge myself with complex portraits especially people with freckles or beard,” she explained in an interview. “And I’m addicted to details. I like drawing in as much details as I can into my work.”
And it’s no surprise – her drawings of people, scenery, and still life are so astounding! It’s rare for an artist to have such impeccable attention to detail that things we normally overlook – such as freckles, skin pores, and hair strands – are things we can actually stare at in bizarre awe.
