Each month, the TAE team and I would handpick at least one artist whom we think should get featured as our artist of the month. For April, we discovered the work of Rubén Belloso Adorna or sometimes known online as “Benbe.”
Usually armed with pastels and a wooden canvas, Rubén and his hyperrealistic artworks blow everyone’s minds whenever they realize the “photographs” are actually hand-painted pastel portraits. Hailing from Seville, Spain, he took up Fine Arts at the University of Seville.
Taking the art world by storm both online and off, Rubén has already won several awards, produced solo and group exhibitions, and have had his works have gone viral because of their stunning photo-quality style. Many even dub the 28-year-old as a genius of our time.
He doesn’t keep his “genius” technique to himself though – he actually teaches people on how to work with pastels too. What’s amazing about his work is not only are they seemingly impossibly real – they are huge! Some of his works are over six feet tall. The incredible detail he needs to put in each image is astounding!
