We at The Art Elephant just love anything that screams “surfer” – so it’s really no surprise we saw the works of Warren Keelan and instantly fell in love. The artist is a multi-international award winning seascape and ocean photographer, who is based in New South Wales, Australia.
Living in the Illawarra South Coast area, he has had quite the impressive resume, with a list of awards and recognition under his belt from both media and some of the top photography competitions including:
- International Landscape Photographer of the Year
- International Photo Awards
- International Monochrome Awards
- Epson International Pano
- Siena International
- International Loupe Awards
In his bio he writes, “I spend most of my days alongside or within the ocean, interpreting what I see through the medium of digital photography.” This is totally reflected in his art… don’t, for a second, think it’s just your run-of-the-mill ocean photography. Warren’s creations are half intentional, half lucky, but completely gorgeous.
“I’ve always had a fascination with nature, especially the ocean and its ever changing forms, and I am compelled to capture and share what I feel are special and unique moments in the sea,” he explains in his bio. “I love the raw, unpredictable nature of water in motion and the way sunlight brings it all to life, from both above and below the surface. For me, the challenge is creating an image that hopefully tells a story or leaves an impression on the viewer.”
In a submitted post to Bored Panda, he explained the science behind his art. “My favorite lens currently is Canon’s 70-200mm IS II 2.8,” he said, “But I have also explored the realms of the 15mm Fisheye for underwater vortex and behind the wave images.” He also started using a hand-held waterproof flash system as of last year.
