Street Art Installation in Australia

There’s a 200-foot mural in Australia installed about three years ago, and it was a collaboration among many different artists. The inspiring mixed media artwork, titled “Sticks & Stones” can be seen along a wall in Adelaide.

Created by street artist ABOVE, who incidentally fell during the creation of this piece and literally broke his bones, installed the mural that wrote “Sticks & stones may break my bones, but words will always save me.” As mentioned, he fell while working on this and broke his scapula in two places. In addition, he also suffered a concussion which sent him to the hospital twice.

The project that states the traditional saying was completed with the help of public artist ANKLES, wood carver Chris Edser, designer Tristan Kerr, and art gallery director Joshua Fanning. They used wooden planks, sticks, patterned paper, and spray paint, among others. Here’s a short video of what they did:

Here are pictures of the artwork, as taken by photographer Jonathan VDK. You can click the panorama photo for the full and hi-res version of the massive artwork. I sure would love to see this in person when I travel to Australia!
