This year, we have three Friday the 13ths – February, March, and September. If you’re the superstitious kind, you might believe it to be bad luck, but other people find it the opposite and would even say it’s cool. What other things have this split opinion?

Black cats surely gave gotten a bad rep, but they have nothing to do with bad luck! Photographer Monika Malek, a self-confessed cat lover, recently created a series in honor of them and Friday the 13th.

“Black cats are the key to my project as I want people to realize that it’s irrational to say that black cats bring bad luck,” she said. “My series consists of 13 shots.” Those 13 take a play on superstitions like broken mirrors, walking under ladders, and the like.

“In my pictures, I show black cats in different situations – not only as sweet kittens willing to play but also as conquerors and vultures,” she explained. “I want to prove that black cats don’t differ from any other colored cats. They are all the same.”
