It’s a sad fact that certain dogs get a bad rap in popular culture, and this includes the pit bull breed. Normally, they get portrayed as short tempered, aggressive, and ferocious. It’s akin to racism in humans, and no matter how anyone twists it, it’s just wrong and judgmental.
Fortunately, there are loads of people who are more open and less disapproving. Based in the US, French photographer Sophie Gamand is one of those positive people who just want to show everyone else the happier, softer side of this often-misunderstood breed.
She created a series called “Flower Power, Pit Bulls of the Revolution,” wherein she photographs lovely pit bulls wearing floral crowns and striking joyful poses. The series aims to show the overlooked sweet disposition of pit bulls, hoping to encourage adoption as well as to lessen the mistreatment and misjudgment.
Check out these photos to see how adorable they are! And if you’re in the New York area, you can visit these dogs looking for homes if you’re looking to adopt.
Look up Sean Casey Rescue, Second Chance Rescue, or Animal Haven. If you still want to help, but cannot adopt, you can alternately buy photos. Proceeds from print sales go to the shelters as well.
