In one of our recent online pursuits for some of the newest and most interesting artists, I found the cute and extremely detailed works of Lei Melendres. His doodle creatures remind me so much of another artist we previously featured, Kerby Rosanes. To my surprise, these two know each other! But more on that later – let’s talk about Lei’s art first.
The 25-year-old Manila-based artist is a freelancer whose background includes getting commissioned for various publications, websites, and galleries/exhibits both local and foreign. Now, he is the head of Doodle Art Enthusiasts (DAE), the largest doodling community in the Philippines. He also created Doodle Arts Magazine late 2014, and serves as its Creative Director.
Quite recently, Lei and Kerby did a collaboration in Camarines Sur in the Philippines. After working for about 7 hours, the doodling pair was able to finish their live doodle mural:
If that isn’t awesome, we don’t know what is. It’s both simple and complex at the same time – just black against a white background, with the artists’ signature doodle styles that display their creativity using lines, dots, and wild imaginations.
Look out for his Doodle Fusion coloring book:
