Mashups are a 21st century thing, for sure. We’ve seen so many of them in recent years, it’s almost hard to decipher one from the other. However, a prolific artist by the name of Ilana Tavshunsky caught our eye with her astounding mashup of Salvador Dali’s and other artists’ famous works… on musical instruments.

In this series of paintings, the 22-year-old Canadian artist showcases what would have happened if Salvador Dali traveled through time and collaborated with other famous artists of those eras. In her artworks, called “Taleraca Art,” Ilana paints onto musical instruments, which makes her creations all the more unique. Take note that these instruments are still playable, having used some of these in concert herself.

It may surprise you, though, that this young and budding gemstone of a painter also has a degree in neuroscience and geoscience. On top of all that, she is also a synesthete, and can taste color. We could only imagine what kind of artistic parties go on in her mind when she creates visual art!

“I’m a science student with a passion for art. I love distilling emotions into color,” she describes. She has done so much more than this series, and has even recently joined Art Battle in Toronto creating paintings with a palette knife. Clearly, this woman is talented, breaking down barriers between art and science.

Here’s a video of one of her most notable creations, a mashup called Dali Meets Van Gogh, painted on a violin:
