Arizona-based photographer Mike Olbinski started getting into weather at a young age. He eventually became a professional photographer, which he now uses to capture his childhood passion into images. The mind-blowing photos he takes show how majestic and oftentimes scary nature can get during storms.
Rather than the usual reaction of running away from storms, he chooses to go toward them to shoot. Mike’s dynamic pictures vary in landscape types from deserts to cities, and capturing cloud formations, lightning, and dust storms, just to name a few.
“When you’ve lived in Arizona your whole life, you learn to appreciate unusual things like clouds, rain… and weather in general,” he recalls. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with weather. I used to watch lightning out my window with my brother when we were little. And now I chase storms.”
It’s kind of strange to think, then, that other than his hobby of photographing Mother Nature’s wrath, Mike is actually a wedding photographer who caters mainly to the Tucson, Scottsdale, and Sedona area (but he says he doesn’t mind going anywhere around the world to take shots).
“When I’m not photographing weddings, I’m probably out with my kids storm chasing across Arizona,” he says on his website. “Lightning, haboobs, hail, tornadoes… It’s what my summers are all about.”
