I’m a big lover of time lapse photography, and this new discovery really put a spark in my creativity (in all sense of the term). Sure, the holidays are still months away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate wintery scenery! I just found these sets of surreal, Christmas-y pictures online and thought it would be nice to share.

I learned that these shots were taken in Budapest, where trams and street cars are decorated with over 30,000 LED lights. When pictures are shot at the right exposure, these twinkling lights leave cute “trails” that kind of look both futuristic and nostalgic at the same time.

I also just found out that this tradition of decorating these public vehicles was initiated a few years back, in 2009, by the Budapest Transport Company. As travel is one of my passions, I’d love to see these brilliantly decorated vehicles in action, and maybe take a few time lapse shots myself!

This festive tradition is enjoyed by both locals and travelers alike – it’s a fun, budget-friendly way to enjoy the sights during the holidays. These pictures are taken by various photographers (scroll to the end to see the link/credit).
