Cover: M.J.Hiblen – tribute to Carrie Fisher and Kenny Baker (who played R2-D2, passed away last August)
Carrie Fisher, probably known best for her acting work as the iconic Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, passed away recently. Just a few days after Christmas, 2016 took another bright star from us way too soon. For many, Carrie and her Star Wars character became an inspiration, and it’s no surprise that there are many touching tributes to both the actress and the character.
The beloved 60-year-old actress and writer suffered a heart attack, so close to the holidays. We learned Christmas was one of her favs, and it’s heartbreaking to lose such a wonderful soul, especially at this time of the year. As she was an advocate of mental health, this resonates deeply for a lot of people around the world, including us here at TAE. Definitely a beautiful person, inside and out.
This woman has gone through a lot of ups and downs in her life, and was never afraid to voice out her thoughts. It’s probably the main reason she’s touched so many lives. Even the characters she portrayed have become as timeless as she, because they were a reflection of her strength and wit.
We looked through various social media and art websites to find some of the best tributes to this wonderful person who was gone too soon. This doesn’t take away from all the other people we’ve lost in 2016 – be it family, friends, loved ones, or our fav celebs and role models, including Carrie’s mom, the stellar Debbie Reynolds, who passed away just today – the day after, and George Michael, yet another iconic person who represented love and unwavering strength, who passed away last Christmas (pun not intended).
